Current Climate Laws

The following Bills provide a framework for sectoral strengthening and financing for effective planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of climate change adaptation and mitigation. The legislation will provide support in helping the Government of Saint Lucia achieve its sustainable development goals by facilitating an integrated and participatory approach to governance and promoting environmental management.

Saint Lucia’s Disaster Risk Management Act 2006

The Act provides for the mitigation of, preparedness for, response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters in Saint Lucia. This includes the establishment of the National Emergency Management Organisation and the National Emergency Management Advisory Committee for disaster management planning and implementation.


Saint Lucia’s Climate Change Adaptation Policy 2015

The aim of the document is to foster a national process to address the short, medium and long-term effects of climate change in a coordinated manner to ensure the greatest possible quality of life for Saint Lucians. The Policy institutes a framework to guide the legislative and policy work on the sustainable development of governmental and non-governmental entities involved in Saint Lucia. It acknowledges the potentially profound impacts of climate change on the country, and the need to establish adaptation actions in the development processes of key sectors.
