Civil Society & Gender
This State of the Environment Report is the second to be published by the Government of Saint Lucia.
The Report also identifies trends since the first assessment to provide a sense of direction with regard to environmental change, and suggests how to approach data and information gathering and reporting to enable the monitoring of progress towards the sustainability-first outcome.
The aim of the Report is to provide information that will contribute to improving environmental management while balancing the needs of economic development. The information is intended to help community, industry and Government work towards improving environmental management and the sustainable use of natural resources. Success in achieving this goal will require changes in the culture for data collection, analysis and reporting; accountability on the part of resource management agencies to achieve agreed targets and benchmarks; and meaningful opportunities for civil society to become engaged in holding those responsible for environmental and natural resource conservation to account for their stewardship.
